Official answer
How much Stamp Duty do I pay when buying a property?
Stamp Duty is calculated in bands, so each rate applies only to the part of the price within that band. The amount depends on where the property is, its price, whether you are a first-time buyer and whether the purchase leaves you owning another home. Scotland and Wales use separate property transaction taxes.
The calculator applies the published national bands and shows the amount charged in each slice.
